ALESS, which has a store in Yamagata City, Gifu Prefecture, has a lot of cool sedans around. Walking around the spacious exhibition hall and looking at the cars on display is truly exciting. Among the cars on display at ALESS, the VIPSTYLE editorial department has selected the best one, based on our own judgment and prejudice. It is the 20CELSIOR.

The proportions of this car are literally sedan-like, different from the recent CROWN and LEXUS. The use of chrome parts on the grille, moldings, and other parts gives the car a deep and luxurious feel. There is nothing eccentric about this car, and it looks like a straightforward embodiment of the idea of what a luxury car should be like.

This 20CELSIOR is a 1999 model, so it is 25 years old, but its coolness has not faded away. On the contrary, I have a feeling that if this 20CELSIOR were to be customized in a simple, VIP-like manner now, it would capture the attention of many car enthusiasts.

The aero parts installed are from AIMGAIN, a very popular aero parts manufacturer, and the series is pure VIP, with the twin eye-shaped fog lamps on both sides, a small opening, and a central opening with a single bar. The thick single bar is the key, and it is simple and cool.

The front, sides, rear, and the entire body are coordinated with AIMGAIN. As one would expect, the full bumper type has a strong presence, and it is unique and different from others. Incidentally, the moderately voluminous lip has a few noticeable cracks, but rest assured that Ares will repair these.

If we were to mention a weak point, we would say that the rims have a few scratches, but since cleanliness is more important than anything else for a VIP, it would be better to send the wheels to a contractor for repair or replace them with new ones after purchase. Nevertheless, it is obvious from these photos that these pure sporty 5-spoke wheels look superb. We hope you will consider 5-spoke as an option when replacing your wheels.

The PROFESSOR SP1 boasts deep-rooted popularity; its thick 5-spoke design gives it a presence that is as strong as the large sedan’s body.

This model is equipped with the full-tap type of FINAL KONNEXION, a long-established manufacturer. The dampers are made by a first-rate manufacturer, so you can rest assured that you are in good hands.

A few scratches on the aero and wheels are noticeable. By giving them a little TLC, the affection for them will surely be doubled.

The base model is a 1999 B-spec. As expected, there are some scratches here and there, but overall the white pearl body is clean. The mileage is only 66,000 km, and the engine is in good condition. The interior is also very good for its age, and I don’t think there are any tears on the moquette seats.

Navigation systems, which were state-of-the-art at the time, are still in use today, but are indeed not very user-friendly. Nowadays, many people use their smartphones as a substitute for navigation systems, so with some ingenuity, this weakness should be eliminated.

The 20CELSIOR is still immensely popular, so much so that some people still declare it the coolest of the VIPs. This is just my personal taste, but I think that simple dress-up with the genuine quality of the vehicle suits this older model.

Price-wise, they may be expensive for young people, but they are well worth it. Of course, I would recommend it not only to young people, but also to people in their 40s and older who know what it was like back then.
