CROWN ATHLETE, a fusion of “VIP” and “Drift”, is now available.

The TOYOTA 17CROWN ATHLETE with its unique aura displayed in the ALESS booth at the “TOKYO AUTO SALON” held at the beginning of the year attracted as much attention as the “60CENTURY with the world’s first over fender” of ALESS displayed next to it at the Makuhari Messe where the event was held.

The theme of the dress-up is “a VIP car that can drift cooler than a drifting car,” says the owner, Yamamoto. The grade of the car is VX, based on the 1JZ-GTE-powered ATHLETE V. The chassis and engine were modified by YAMAHA, and the car was sold through MODELLISTA in a limited edition of 300 units. It is not so easy to find one. First of all, it is amazing that such a special car was modified and drifted.　

The engine is a 400 hp 1JZ-GTE, JZX100 R154 5MT spec, ORC559D metal twin clutch, MANBA GT3071R turbine, TOMEI 265L reinforced fuel pump, TOMEI Technical Trax Advance mechanical 2 way diff, APEX air cleaner, and many other tuning details are listed on the spec sheet.

I hate to say it, but most cars that are drifting are covered in scratches. In a way, it is a medal of honor. However, this 17CROWN ATHLETE is shiny, simple in overall construction, and literally has a VIP feel to it. That’s what I like about it.

‘I’ve had this car for 12 years now. This is the sixth time I have painted the entire car. I chose Precious Silver（1J6）because the catalog color of 17CROWN is silver, the catalog color of VX is Precious Silver type, and the color number 1J6 looks like 1JZ 6-cylinder, so I thought this color was the only choice,” said the owner.

It is not often that we get to hear such a deep story just about the color chosen. It is a proof that they are serious about their beloved car. And the most interesting part is the over fenders. The fenders are 7 cm wide at the front and 10 cm wide at the rear. The fenders have a clear line and are tightened at the bottom. The edges were also made to have a moderate thickness.

“We finished it in a way that it would stand out at dress-up event venues. Since it is a drift vehicle, I made an aggressive TSURAICHI that won’t break even with a full counter,” he said.
